Tracking & Tracing: Do I need to specify a reply date if I send a tracking & tracing request?
When you complete the form you should indicate whether your request is urgent or non-urgent.
- Non – urgent should be chosen for the majority of requests where goods are not detained and you are simply mapping the supply chain to build a case for civil or criminal action.
- Urgent would normally be chosen when goods are detained, and the case needs to be built further to support forfeiture.
In no circumstances should detentions be made purely because of tracking & tracing requests.
Before detaining goods, you must have good reason to believe that an offence making the goods liable to forfeiture has occurred. The source/supply of goods is only an indicator of whether duty may have been paid or not.
