Glossary: Supplementary Protection Certificate

A supplementary protection certificate (SPC) is in effect a stand alone extension of a patent but is a different and distinctive right. The SPC is available for medicinal products, such as drugs, and plant protection products, such as insecticides, and herbicides.

Like patents SPCs are only valid within the Member State of registration.
