CDSSG12020 - Step-By-Step Guide, Step 7 - Documentary Code Requirements

Document Codes are used to declare reference numbers or exemptions for any type of documentation needed to release the goods. Document Codes may be required for:

  • Documents used to restrict the movement of certain types of goods such as licences and certificates
  • Authorisations required to release the goods using the specific declaration type or customs procedure, treatment or use
  • Documentary Proofs of Origin used to support claims to preferential rates of duty
  • Commercial documentation to support the clearance of the goods such as invoices, packing lists or Bills of Lading
  • Claim a waiver from the requirement to hold a specific type of document as a result of the goods being exempt from that control. This is indicated on the declaration by either using a specific waiver document code or a waiver status code, for example XX or XW.

Use of a waiver is a legal declaration that the goods are exempted from the documentary controls.

Evidence must be held in records to show eligibility for the waiver or exemption which must be produced on demand.
