COM42100 - Case records: maintaining case records: request output in a format for the visually impaired

The Visually Impaired Media Unit (VIMU) provides a design and audio service for colleagues in HMRC and customers with visual impairments. They can reproduce all HM Revenue & Customs leaflets, guidance notes and most other written material in the following formats.

  • Large print.
  • Braille.
  • Audio on CD.
  • Text on CD.
  • E-mail for ‘protect’ items only. ’Restricted’ items should be sent as text on CD.

You can use this service to arrange for all COTAX output to be intercepted and sent to your customer in an alternative format. You can also send specific items to be reproduced in a specific format, for example a letter you produce from SEES.

Before you send a Braille request through to the VIMU, you must you check which format your customer needs as only a small number of people who are registered blind can read Braille.

If you need a format not shown above, contact the VIMU and if possible they will adapt the material to address your customer’s needs.

You can find more information about the VIMU on theVIMU website.
