The EU strives to maintain the stability of agriculture within its own boundaries by a system of protective measures.

One aspect of this is to impose agricultural customs duties, or other similar charges, on imports of agricultural goods.

These charges are intended to prevent the undercutting of EU prices without disrupting world trade, and may be accompanied by other protective measures.
