| Fermentation | The action of yeast on worts to produce beer |
| Finings | Material added to beer to improve clarity or adjust flavour or aroma |
| Firkin | Cask of 9 gallon capacity |
| Failed delivery | Beer returned to registered premises as not required by customer or previously mis-delivered |
| Gravity | The ratio of the weight of a volume of any liquid to the weight of an equal volume of distilled water |
| Grist | Crushed malt from milling |
| Gyle number | The unique number allocated by the brewer to a given brew |
| Hectolitre | One hundred litres |
| Helpline | Deals with all general telephone enquiries both from businesses and the public |
| Hogshead | Cask of 54 gallon capacity |
| Hopback | Vessel in which worts are run from the copper for removal of spent hops |
| HMDP | The Excise Goods (Holding, Movement and Duty Point) Regulations 2010 |
| Kilderkin | Cask of 18 gallon capacity |
| Large pack | Containers in excess of 10 litres (casks and kegs) |
| Liquor | Brewing trade term for water |
