Vacancy details

Our senior commercial lawyers are involved in some of the most high profile, complex and far reaching commercial issues in government. They are required to demonstrate significant experience in the commercial law area. As well as playing a full legal role in the work of the relevant team, a senior lawyer can expect to work autonomously for much of the time. They will be the principal advisor on important, high-profile projects and the management of external legal support. They will be required to advise very senior stakeholders, including Ministers of the Crown, personally. And they can expect to play a line management role for more junior team members.

Successful candidates will advise primarily on public procurement and commercial contracts, but may also be involved in work relating to outsourcing, research and development contracts, intellectual property rights and commercial vehicles for delivery.

This advice can include drafting of major contractual documents and contract specifications, as well as procurement documentation. Effective contract and supplier management is essential to extract maximum value and commercial lawyers can also be called upon to advise on handling performance issues and disputes.

Senior lawyers will work closely with their team colleagues to deliver a high quality commercial legal service to the client and to continue to develop the particular team. The post holder will also be expected to make a substantive corporate contribution, both to the leadership of the division and to the leadership of the Government Legal Department more generally.

Applications are welcome from all commercial law disciplines, but of particular interest are lawyers with experience in the following areas:

  • Complex contract drafting;
  • Information Technology; and
  • Commercial Property law
