Replace a vehicle approval certificate

Apply to replace an Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) or Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) certificate if it's lost, stolen or damaged.

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales

If you have lost or damaged the original, you can apply for a replacement:

  • Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) certificate
  • Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) certificate

How much it costs

It costs:

  • £25 for an IVA certificate
  • £13 for MSVA certificate

You can pay online when you apply by:

You’ll need:

  • the vehicle identification number (VIN) or chassis number
  • the vehicle registration number (if registered)
  • your username and password if you’ve used the service before

You can register in the service if you’ve not used it before.

What happens next

DVSA might need to inspect your vehicle before giving you a replacement certificate.

They will email you to arrange an inspection if your vehicle needs one.

Once your application has been approved, DVSA will:

  • email you a copy of your certificate
  • send your replacement certificate by post

If you find the original certificate

Send the original certificate to DVSA if you find it after it’s been replaced.
