International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm)

Information about the financial tool to aid immunisation programmes and how to partner it.

Overview

The International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm) is a means of front-loading aid flows and reducing volatility. This concept, pioneered by the GAVI Alliance, converts funding pledges into AAA-rated bonds that can be sold to boost short-term funding and provide a stable long-term financial platform.

IFFIm raises finance by issuing bonds in the capital markets and so converts long-term government pledges into immediately available cash resources. The pledges will be used to repay the IFFIm bonds. The World Bank acts as financial adviser and treasury manager to IFFIm. So far IFFIm bonds have raised more than US$3 billion in immediately available cash resources for GAVI immunisation programmes.
