How to register and send exemption election reports to HMRC

If you're a collective investment vehicle fund manager or authorised to act on behalf of a fund manager, find out how to register for the Secure Data Exchange Service to send annual exemption election reports.

You’ll need to register for the Secure Data Exchange Service (SDES) to send annual exemption election fund reports to HMRC.

You must do this to maintain the exemption.

How to register

Step 1

You should email the SDES team requesting an invite to register.

Send an email, and put ‘SDES invitation request’ in the subject line to: exemptionelectionnrcg.msb@hmrc.gov.uk.

You will be sent an invitation within 15 working days which will include a code that you’ll need when to use to register. Codes are valid for 30 days.

Step 2

Register for SDES.

You’ll receive a confirmation email when HMRC approve the data exchange. This can take up to 30 days.

Step 3

You can now send your exemption election report to HMRC.
