Government Geography Profession - Jobs

Resource for jobs in the Civil Service and government professionals as well as associated established schemes.

Jobs

Opportunities for specific jobs in the Civil Service and central government organisations can be found on Civil Service jobs. You can search specifically for Geography jobs by selecting ‘Geography’ from the “Job Role” drop down list.

Individual organisations in the wider public sector advertise opportunities on their websites:

In addition to applying for specific roles as set out above, it is also possible to enter through an apprenticeship, graduate entry programme or profession specific recruitment. Whilst there is no apprenticeship or graduate entry programme for the geography profession yet, a number of our members enter through one of the entry routes for one of the other professions in the Government Analysis Function of which the geography profession is part or through the generalist fast stream and then join the geography profession once they take up post (a number of our members are members of two professions e.g. economic geographers of spatial statisticians):

Government Geography Profession

The Government Geography Profession welcomes members from UK Civil Servants, Crown Servants and Public Servants covering a wide range of organisations from Ministerial departments to the Ordnance Survey, Environment Agency and local authorities. If you are not sure whether you are a civil, crown or public servant please consult your HR department.

For existing members of the Government Geography Profession we will advertise available positions on the Geography Profession Slack channel.

If you are a civil, crown or public servant, and a geographer, find out more about our benefits and how to join us
