Principal
Principles of good distribution practice for veterinary medicinal products.
- Good distribution practice for veterinary medicinal products must ensure that the quality, safety and efficacy of veterinary medicinal products is maintained throughout all stages of the supply chain from the site of their manufacturer to the user.
- Wholesale supply of veterinary medicinal products (VMPs) is an important activity in the integrated supply chain and must be regulated to ensure the identity, integrity, traceability and quality of veterinary medicinal products.
- This Good Distribution Practice (GDP) document replaces the requirement to follow the Guidelines on Good Distribution Practice for Human Use (OJ No C 63, 1.3.94) for Great Britain for veterinary medicinal products.
- Any person acting as a wholesale dealer and supplying veterinary medicinal products must hold a valid Wholesale Dealer Authorisation (WDA) and must comply with Good Distribution Practice as set out in this document, in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013 (as amended). The measures put in place should ensure that veterinary medicinal products are appropriately stored, transported and handled, and that they remain within the legal supply chain during storage and transport.
