Import Certificates

Import certificates are required for non-UK licenced veterinary medicinal products which are to be placed on the UK market.

  1. Import certificates are required for non-UK licenced veterinary medicinal products which are to be placed on the UK market. Import certificates are only issued for a product if a supply issue has been identified or there is a clinical justification for its use.
  2. Where unauthorised veterinary medicinal products are stored at, or supplied from, more than one site then a separate WDIC must be in place for each premises.
  3. Import certificates are valid for up to one year, if after that time there are stocks of an unauthorised veterinary medicinal product remaining then a new certificate is required. If the product is no longer available on the Import System, and a new certificate cannot be obtained, then the remaining product must be returned or destroyed.
  4. Procedures and records must be in place to ensure that importation, possession and supply are all in accordance with valid certificates, and these records must be retained for a minimum of five years.
