Guidance

Exporting to Costa Rica after Brexit if there’s no deal

Guidance explaining changes for UK exporters to Costa Rica if we leave the EU with no deal.

Trade agreement

The UK has signed an agreement with Central American countries, including Costa Rica.

The agreement maintains the effects of the EU-Central America agreement and could ensure that trade continues with minimal disruption if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

Tariffs and quotas

Because the UK has signed an agreement with Central American countries including Costa Rica, trade could continue with minimal changes to tariffs and quotas when the UK leaves the EU.

Controlled goods

The export licensing regulations for controlled goods will be affected.

Controlled goods include:

  • military items
  • dual-use items (items with both civil and military uses)
  • firearms

Find out how export licensing for controlled goods will change.

Travel

Sanctions and embargoes

Exports of certain categories of product to some countries are subject to embargoes or sanctions.
