DBT publication scheme

The publication scheme specifies the categories of information that DBT publishes and how to access that information.

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act encourages public authorities to make information available to the public wherever possible. We do this by publishing the data that people need to understand who we are, what we spend and what we achieve.

Under the Act, we are required to adopt a publication scheme that contains information we make available, and ensure that all published information is in accordance with the scheme. Available information is grouped under the following ‘classes of information’.

If the information you require is not available, you can make a request for it under the Freedom of Information Act.

Who we are and what we do

This information covers our organisational details, structure, locations and contacts. This includes:

  • about us
  • our management and ministerial team information
  • information about the organisations the department is responsible for, works in partnership with, or sponsors
  • legislation relevant to DBT’s functions
  • our answers to parliamentary questions on the parliament website
  • our location and contact details

What we spend and how we spend it

The government departments responsible for business, trade and culture have undergone a major restructure. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has been broken up as part of the creation of four new government departments aimed at boosting economic growth and addressing the energy crisis.

The merger of parts of BEIS with the Department of International Trade (DIT) is an opportunity to better integrate exports within the wider UK growth strategy.

We will publish DBT’s financial information about projected and actual income, expenditure, procurement, contracts and financial audits, when we have data.

Our priorities are and how we’re doing

This information covers departmental strategies and plans, performance indicators, audits, inspections and reviews, including:

  • Governments Spending Review 2020 (SR20)
  • gender pay gap report and data 2019 to 2020
  • the Permanent Secretaries’ objectives

How we make decisions

This is where we publish details of our decision-making processes and records of our decisions. These include:

  • DBT’s  policy proposals and decisions
  • our research and analysis
  • our public consultations
  • our trade and investment factsheets

Our policies and procedures

This information covers our protocols, policies and procedures for providing services, and responsibilities, including:

  • The Civil Service Code
  • our complaints procedure
  • our recruiting and employing staff
  • our records management and personal data policies

Lists and registers

This is where we publish details of the department’s public registers, asset registers and disclosure logs, including:

  • our public registers and registers held as public records
  • the department’s disclosure logs listing FOI requests
  • a register of ministers’ interests

Data and datasets

You can find datasets published by DBT on the Find open data website.
