Customs authorisation

Provides information on what customs authorisations are.

Customs authorisations offer benefits to authorisation holders such as reducing the cost of moving goods across borders, facilitating alternative customs processes or approving locations used for customs activity. The authorisation holder must show that they meet certain criteria and conditions of authorisation through an application process before they are authorised.

A full customs authorisation is granted to traders, intermediaries or anyone involved in an international supply chain who have been through this process and which has confirmed they will manage their customs obligations in line with the requirements of the authorisation they applied for.

Goods can be moved across borders without the use of customs authorisations or special procedures. But without these, a full customs special procedure and a full customs declaration will need to be made at the border and any customs duties or import VAT must also be paid at the border.
