  5. Enter a new password and select Continue.

Reset your password

If you’ve forgotten your password, you can reset it. To do this:

  1. Go to sign in to your GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Select Sign in.
  3. Enter your email address.
  4. On the Enter password screen, select the link that says I’ve forgotten my password.
  5. Check your email for a security code.
  6. Enter the security code and select Continue.
  7. Enter another security code - you’ll get this by text message or from your authenticator app.
  8. Enter a new password and select Continue.

Change your phone number

You can change the phone number you use to get security codes to sign in. To do this:

  1. Sign in to your GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Go to Security.
  3. Find How you get security codes to sign in.
  4. Select Change phone number.

If you’ve added a phone number as a back-up method, you can remove it and add a new phone number.

If you’ve lost access to your phone

If you’ve lost access to your phone number or you’ve changed it, you can use your back-up method (another phone number or authenticator app) if you’ve added one.

If you do not have a back-up method, check if you can change how you get security codes:

  1. Sign in to your GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. When asked to enter the security code, select Problems with the code.
  4. Select Check if you can change how you get security codes.

You’ll only be able to change how you get security codes if you’ve already proved your identity with GOV.UK One Login.

If you’re told you cannot change how you get security codes, contact GOV.UK One Login.

If you’re told you can change how you get security codes, you’ll need to prove your identity using the GOV.UK ID Check app. This is because we need to know it’s you and helps to keep your GOV.UK One Login safe.

We’ll ask some questions to make sure you can use the GOV.UK ID Check app. Then we’ll tell you how to download and use the app to prove your identity.

You can then choose how you want to get security codes. You can get codes by text message to your mobile phone number or from an authenticator app.

Changing how you get security codes will remove your previous default and back-up method, if you’ve set one up.

Get help using the GOV.UK ID Check app.

If you cannot use the app then contact GOV.UK One Login.
