Apply for Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) if your motorcycle, 3-wheeled or light 4-wheeled vehicle has not been type-approved to European standards.

You must apply for a Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) inspection if you have a moped, motorcycle, 3 wheeler or quadricycle that has not been type-approved to European standards.
You must also apply for MSVA if your vehicle has been radically altered or built using a mixture of parts from previously registered vehicles. This includes:
- amateur built vehicles
- rebuilt vehicles
- vehicles converted to a different wheelplan
You cannot use your motorcycle on the road until it has passed the MSVA inspection.
How much it costs
The fee will depend on the type of vehicle you want to approve and whether or not the test is within working hours.
You can pay online when you apply by:
- credit or debit card
- using a pre-funded account
Apply for MSVA online
You’ll need:
- the vehicle identification number (VIN) or chassis number
- your username and password if you’ve used the service before
You can register in the service if you’ve not used it before.
Once you’ve started your application you can save your form and complete it later.
What happens next
DVSA will send you an email to let you know the outcome. You’ll usually get a response within 10 working days.
