The UK is now, and predicted to remain, the largest market in Europe. The country is highly committed to create a low carbon economy through innovations that create new solutions and lower costs for technologies such as marine resources, clean coal and wind power.

Apart from being a world leader in the development of wave and tidal power, the UK is also set to remain the biggest market for offshore wind with the potential to install 18GW of generating capacity by 2020. Furthermore, the UK remains the destination of intense renewable energy development and the largest single market for installed offshore wind energy capacity.

Taking advantage of its position to become a global leader in the supply chain, the UK Offshore Wind Industrial Strategy was created to deliver this potential by promoting innovation, investment and economic growth in the supply chain. The strategy identifies practical measures to develop and grow a competitive UK supply chain and attract inward investment from the top tier of the supply chain which will open up opportunities more widely that includes global delivery. The implementation of the strategy will be under the watch of the newly created Offshore Wind Industry Council established by the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).
