The State Securities Commission of Vietnam organised a workshop on derivatives and derivative market on 18th March 2015, to introduce an overview of UK experience in derivative securities, markets and regulations. The key presenter in the workshop was Mr. Anthony Belchambers, a British consultant to the SSC who also provided SSC with comments on the draft decree and circular on derivative securities.

The workshop in Hanoi was part of a project funded by the UK’s Prosperity Fund for the State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC) to develop Vietnam’s derivative market and promote good practices on corporate governance in public companies. British Ambassador to Vietnam Giles Lever and SSC Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Long opened the workshop. About 100 representatives from the SSC, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, and financial institutions attended.

In his opening remarks, British Ambassador Giles Lever emphasised that the UK’s support to Vietnam in developing its financial services sector comes natural, as Britain is home to one of the world’s leading and oldest financial centres. The UK is keen to share with Vietnam its deep and extensive experiences in developing and regulating sophisticated financial products.

The British Ambassador continued:

We expect discussions in the workshops in Hanoi and HCMC over the next 6 days will have major impacts in the long-term development of Vietnam’s capital market, thus making important contributions to Vietnam’s structural reform and economic development.

A similar workshop will be organised in Ho Chi Minh city on 20th March, followed by two workshops on best practices in corporate governance in Ho Chi Minh city on 24th March, and in Hanoi on 26th March.
