UK supports security efforts at Entebbe International Airport
The British High Commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne has formally handed over aviation security equipment to the Government of Uganda.
British High Commissioner, Alison Blackburne, hands over a certifcate of attendance from the UK Department of Transport to CAA Deputy Chief of Security Mr Charles Matsiko Ssenyonga.
The British High Commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne formally handed over aviation security equipment to the Government of Uganda on Thursday 30 May.
The equipment, including x-ray trays, test pieces for x-ray machines and walk through metal detectors, will complement the explosive trace detection machines donated last year by the UK Department for Transport and assist in broadening aviation security detection capability at Entebbe International Airport.
Ms Blackburne said:
Aviation is a global business and through such a world-wide network we are all potentially vulnerable to attack. We all face the same difficult challenges in defending our aviation industries from the threat of terrorism, so we should help one another and share experiences and best practice in our efforts to improve aviation security standards.
In addition to this equipment, the UK Government has and continues to offer various levels of aviation security training courses to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority on: x-ray screening (cabin and hold baggage and cargo); physical search of baggage and people; aviation security supervisor’s skills and training the trainers.
