John Mann, MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kyrgyzstan, and his colleague Andrew Rosindell, MP, visited Bishkek.
On 22-23 September John Mann, MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kyrgyzstan and his colleague Andrew Rosindell, MP, visited Bishkek to familiarise themselves with recent developments in Kyrgyzstan.
During their stay, they met JK Speaker Jeenbekov and Chairs of key parliamentary committees to learn about steps to consolidate parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan and the remaining challenges. They also discussed preparations for next year’s parliamentary elections with Deputy Chair of the Central Electoral Commission Gulnara Djurabaeva. They met Deputy Foreign Minister Erenis Otorbaev to discuss UK-Kyrgyz bilateral relations.
The two British MPs gave their insights into effective parliamentarism at a round-table on parliamentary democracy organised by the Roza Otunbaeva Foundation with the support of the British Embassy in Bishkek. Other speakers included Deputy JK Speaker Asiya Sasykbaeva, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Kanybek Imanaliev and Deputy Chair of the CEC Djurabaeva.
The visitors also met representatives of the diplomatic community, civil society, Business circles and media as well as implementer a of a number of projects funded by the UK government.
Mr Mann is continuing his familiarisation visit with a trip to Osh.

Having chosen the real path to democracy, the Kyrgyz Republic can be our partner on a range of issues. We feel after our short visit here that Kyrgyz politicians are talking the same language as us.
