The British Embassy in Seoul this week hosted a showcase of innovative IT from one of the UK’s industry leaders.

Imagination Technologies, based in Hertfordshire, specialise in mobile graphics and microprocessor chip technology. Their products and components are used by electronics giants including Apple and Samsung.

Several local companies, tech experts and trade media attended the event at the embassy’s Aston Hall. In addition to the product showcase and interactive exhibitions, guests heard speeches and took part in a Q&A with Imagination Technologies’ staff.

British Ambassador to South Korea, Scott Wightman, opened the event and congratulated the firm on the progress they are making in the local market.

He said:

I’m delighted to welcome Imagination Technologies back to Korea and back to the embassy. Their strategic partnerships with local firms are an important part of their business. I’m also pleased to see this great British business working with a growing number of Korean ecosystem partners and developing relationships with major Korean telecoms operators too. I look forward to providing continued support in Korea.

Imagination Technologies has been active in the Korean market for eight years and this year they have expanded their Seoul office with several new processor specialists. This move was taken in response to increased demand from Korean partners. Their products are now being used in LG’s latest generations TVs, Samsung’s cutting edge Galaxy S4 smartphone and Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 3.

The UK is a global leader in ICT with 1.3m people employed in the sector and the largest number of graduates in the field in western Europe. The industry represents 8% of the GVA (Gross Value Added) to the UK economy.
