The UK has a significant presence at this year’s Aero India, with Lord Astor of Hever, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and the Lords Spokesman on Defence and the British High Commissioner to India, Sir James Bevan leading the delegation. The minister is scheduled to meet top officials from the Ministry of Defence following the air show’s inauguration by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Lord Astor said that the UK is a natural partner for India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, based on UK research, development, design and the UK’s expertise in manufacturing. The UK’s defence industrial relationship with India is bigger than simple exports and the UK is looking for mutually beneficial commercial partnerships leveraging the UK’s technology and India’s mass manufacturing, he added.

Speaking at a conference on UK-India Aerospace Industry meet, Lord Astor said:

The UK Aerospace Industry is the largest in Europe and second only to the US globally. It has huge potential for growth. We have more than 30 UK companies participating at Aero India 2015. I encourage UK companies and Indian companies to collaborate and deliver winning business solutions.

British High Commissioner to India, Sir James Bevan said:

The UK companies are present in India and we encourage the Indian companies to look at UK as a partner of choice in India’s quest to grow its capabilities. UK-based original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Airbus, R-R and BAE are developing sourcing arrangements from India and we wish to encourage these OEMs to work with their supply chain and handhold them to develop business opportunities.

Some of the UK companies attending the event are:

  • Rolls-Royce
  • GKN Aerospace
  • UTC Aerospace Systems

  • Group Rhodes
  • TWI
