UK forms largest foreign delegation at AOG 2014
Close to 50 UK companies were on show at the Australasian Oil and Gas (AOG) exhibition in Perth from 19 - 21 February.
Close to 50 UK companies were on show at the Australasian Oil and Gas (AOG) exhibition in Perth from 19 to 21 February, forming the largest foreign delegation at the event.
With expertise ranging from subsea systems and manufacturing to drilling services and marine science, the strong UK presence reinforced the relationship between oil and gas hubs like Perth and Aberdeen, Scotland, where a large number of the British delegates hailed from.
Many UK companies used the exhibition to explore opportunities for introducing their products and services to the Australian market and collaborating with local suppliers.
“The UK’s expertise in subsea oil and gas, developed over decades of experience in the North Sea, translates very well to the opportunities in Australia,” said British Consul General Nick McInnes.
Among the UK exhibitors was Ocean Science Consulting (OSC), a Scottish company specialising in marine mammal observation and underwater noise mitigation. Although this was their first AOG, OSC’s visit to Perth came off the back of recent accreditation by the New Zealand government, an earlier contract with BHP Billiton and the launch of their first book.
Managing Director of OSC, Victoria Todd, said the company was attending AOG to forge links with local firms who require marine mammal mitigation, noise measurement or associated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) services during seismic drilling and exploration projects in Australasia.
“OSC is considering opening an office in Australia and/or New Zealand, or forging a working relationship or joint business with an existing Australian-based firm who wishes to expand their portfolio of technologically-focused environmental services,” said Todd.
