The UK Defence Academy and Cranfield University delivered a 4-day in-house Strategic Leadership Programme for 30 Paraguayans on 16-19 March 2015. Participants from the Defence, Interior and Anti-Drug ministries as well as broadly across the Armed Forces, Logistics Command, and National Police at the Coronel / General level and civilian equivalents were exposed to the concept of strategic leadership and how it can help deliver objectives.

The course was organised by our non-resident Defence Attaché and delivered by two leading experts with extensive academic and military experience from the UK Defence Academy and Cranfield University. The event was funded by the British Embassy in Asuncion.

The Programme’s objective is to enhance the strategic leadership and management at the corporate/strategic level across defence and the wider Security Sector.

The course is based on a blended learning approach comprising lectures, discussions, case studies and exercises. The delegate is placed at the heart of the learning experience; participants are encouraged to share their leadership journey drawing on personal insights.

Besides Paraguay, Chile is the only other country in Latin America to have received an in-country SLP. This demonstrates the engagement of the British government to boost defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

The SLP as an international defence training course has been taught for 14 consecutive years and in 2015 will be exported to a total of 17 countries.
