The Rt Hon Greg Barker MP, UK Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change and UK Minister for Business Engagement with India, will visit India next week to discuss opportunities that a low carbon economy presents for both UK and India.

In Delhi, Minister Barker will meet Indian ministers and Indian business involved in the energy sector (including clean energy and renewable energy finance) and green infrastructure.

In Hyderabad, the Minister will meet senior members of the state government and address the business community on tackling climate change and sustainable economic growth.

In advance of his visit the Minister said:

As Minister for Business Engagement with India, I am constantly astonished at the range of opportunities for deeper cooperation between the UK and India. Not just on energy and low carbon, but in the wider sphere of business: from innovative engineering to large-scale financial markets; from widespread retail to large infrastructure projects such as the Bangalore Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC).

BMEC is a project I am particularly keen to promote during this visit. Like much of our cooperation, it is my hope that this project will help both India and the UK meet the twin challenges of creating green and sustainable economic growth while tackling dangerous man-made climate change.
