UK businesses to discuss opportunities on major sporting events

Experts from companies involved in the organization of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take part in the Service Workshop for Major Sport Events, in Belo Horizonte, next Tuesday, 9th April. They will discuss challenges and opportunities created by big sporting events such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup. The event is organized by the British government in a partnership with the Belo Horizonte Mayor’s office, one of the twelve 2014 World Cup cities.

Tanya Harris, formerly of the British Olympic Association and UK Major Events Panel, and John Tucker, Organising Committee for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and UK Government Olympic Executive will be part of the panels. The sessions will be led by Belo Horizonte’s authorities. Marcio Lacerda, the city’s mayor, and Paula Walsh, British Consul General for Rio de Janeiro will also attend.

The event will bring together British companies that have worked on the Olympic Games and that are already involved in the preparation of major events in Brazil. Companies such as Arena/ FAST, ES Global, MATCH, CSM, Steer Davies Gleave, MV Global Transport Logistics, PIE Mapping, Knights Group, Vero Communications, Squint Opera, Ernst & Young Terco will share best practice on temporary structure construction, design, hotels, transport, crowd control and many others.
