TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex in South Africa
TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex are in South Africa for the 30th Anniversary of The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment Trust.
Their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex are visiting South Africa as part of the 30th Anniversary of The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment Trust. The Earl is a Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and The Countess is a Global Ambassador of the Foundation, to which the Award in South Africa is affiliated.
Whilst in Gauteng, HRH Prince Edward presented Gold Awards at St Alban’s College and joined a reception at the British High Commission’s Residence in Pretoria to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the President’s Awards in South Africa. HRH The Earl of Wessex also presented South African Paralympic swimmer Natalie du Toit with the award of an honorary Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).
In Johannesburg, HRH Prince Edward visited Lilliesleaf farm and the Constitutional Court, where he met with Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. Visiting the British Council-run Connect/ZA project, HRH Prince Edward met with South African partners who are working to build on the new creative energy in Johannesburg’s city centre.
Later in the visit, HRH The Earl of Wessex attended a business breakfast and visited Chris Jan Botha School in Bosmont, Johannesburg, while HRH The Countess of Wessex met with students and teachers at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls and Jabulile Secondary School in Orange Farm.
The next leg of the visit takes place in the Eastern Cape before Their Royal Highnesses head to the Western Cape where they will present Gold Awards together with President Jacob Zuma.
