High Commission in Gaborone is accepting applications for Chevening scholarships

The British High Commission’s Chevening scholarship scheme is now open for applications from the public in Botswana. The closing date for Botswana applicants is 15 November 2013.

The prestigious scheme offers talented graduates and young professionals the chance to study for postgraduate qualifications at the UK’s world leading universities. At least two fully-funded scholarships are available for the academic year 2014/15.

We accept applications from a wide range of subject areas however we particularly welcome applications in the following fields: International Relations and Law, Human Rights, Trade and Economics, Development studies and Environmental studies

British High Commissioner Nick Pyle said; “Britain today is simply a great place to visit, study and work. We want to extend an invitation to young people around the world to experience everything we have to offer. That is why the UK, through the Chevening programme, offers scholarships each year to exceptional people to study in some of the best universities in the world. Our people to people links, exemplified by Chevening scholars, are the foundation for an enduring and ever-deepening relationship between Botswana and the UK.”

The Chevening scholarships cover the full cost of one year of postgraduate study in the UK. The programme has a reputation for attracting outstanding young people who go on to become leaders in their chosen fields. A typical successful candidate demonstrates the potential to benefit from the scheme and to further develop their career and to contribute to Botswana’s development. On their return to Botswana, the scholars will also become members of the Botswana Association of Chevening Alumni. The association, provides the returnees with a valuable network of contacts.
