We have funded a project aimed at enabling women to take up leadership positions in society. High-potential women were selected for training in leadership and campaign skills, and in political systems and structures.

ActionAid Myanmar has also produced a documentary on women’s rights called “Inspiring Women”, which looks at the crucial work of community level women’s organisations. This documentary will be aired through local private broadcast media in the near future.

The British Ambassador H.E. Mr Andrew Heyn commented:

We are very pleased to have been able to support women’s rights in Burma through our Grassroots Development Programme. Achieving equality is a very important part of building a nation and I do feel that our project has supported and encouraged inclusiveness and female leadership in this country.

The project was supported by the British Embassy Rangoon; the total funding for Women’s Rights in Burma was £82,803.
