The UK Ambassador Mr Hugh Philpott presented his Letter of Credentials to the President of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon. During the meeting the President and the Ambassador discussed the breadth of the bilateral relationship, their commitment to develop this further, and importance of friendship between two counrties.

Speaking afther the event with press, Mr Philpott said:

It is a great honour for me to be appointed as the new British Ambassador to Tajikistan.I have only been in Tajikistan a short time, but I already know that Tajik people are generous and hospitable. Everyone I have met has shown the warmest welcome and great friendship.

We have friendly and constructive bilateral relations between our countries. During my stay in Tajikistan as Ambassador I shall work hard with the Government to broaden and deepen this important relationship. The fields of political and security cooperation between friendly states are always important for us, but I also intend to work tirelessly to bring us closer in our commercial, cultural and scientific relations. We already work closely in the area of agriculture and the development of small businesses. I would like to see this engagement between our countries and peoples continue to grow.

We must explore together further fields of economic activity where we can cooperate to the same and greater level. I am also committed to see the valuable work we are already doing culturally together in the area of improving the collection of Tajik artefacts in the British Museum in London and also working with the National Museum of Tajikistan on its exhibition of the famous Oxus treasure.
