Nashville, Tennessee to become #Britville
To further promote UK ties, the British Consulate General in Atlanta will hold numerous events over a four day period throughout Nashville.

Led by Consul General Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford, staff from the British Consulate General in Atlanta and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) can be seen across Music City for four days of events to promote trade and investment, science and innovation, higher education collaboration, business links, and inform British nationals about available consular services.
“The United Kingdom is one of Tennessee’s top five foreign investors, and our Department of Economic and Community Development recently opened a trade office in the UK to encourage more direct foreign investment,” said Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. “Promoting trade and partnership between our state and the UK has never been more important as Tennessee competes in the global marketplace.”
Consul General Pilmore-Bedford underscored the governor’s comments. He said:
Currently, the UK is one of Tennessee’s largest markets in the European Union. The Volunteer State is well represented in the UK by companies such as HCA, Asurion, and Sitel. Some key UK companies in Tennessee include AMEC, BAE Systems, and Smith & Nephew. We will be holding a series of events to showcase the varied strengths of the UK and Middle Tennessee along with the growing opportunities that exist in the transatlantic corridor.

UKTI has partnered with the Nashville Health Care Council and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center to host the UK Healthcare Luncheon, which will discuss how the UK’s National Healthcare Service uses technology to drive efficiency and remain focused on improving patient outcomes.
4pm to 7pm
Belmont University will host an event centered around the Marshall Scholarship. Local and regional institutions will be treated to a presentation detailing the prestigious scholarship that sends over 40 of the US’ top students to study in the UK every year.

Consul General Pilmore-Bedford will host a networking reception with some of Nashville’s top business and civic leaders. British artist and Nashville local Callaghan will perform.

Consul General Pilmore-Bedford will join the Young Leaders Council alumni group to discuss the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the impact it could have on the economy of both the UK, the US, and the state of Tennessee. According to a recent study by the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Atlantic Council, and the British Embassy in Washington, a successfully implemented TTIP could add 13,000 quality jobs to the Volunteer State’s economy.
5:30pm to 7:30pm
UKTI will host a panel discussion titled “Transatlantic Trends in Entrepreneurship” which aims to share emerging trends, technologies, and best practices from both Nashville’s and the UK’s dynamic tech start-up communities.
7pm to 8pm
British expats are invited to mix and mingle with Consul General Pilmore-Bedford, Vice Consul Claire Newman MBE, and other local Brits at Nashville’s Fleet Street Pub to learn more about the services the British Consulate General in Atlanta provides, including an update on the latest changes to passport services.

UKTI will host an informational session titled “Transatlantic Business Insights: Doing Business In and With the UK” in which they will provide an overview of their services, insight into some key UK market opportunities, UK export trends, and more! Immediately after the event, staff will be available for one-to-one meetings to provide more depth and detail to any questions attendees and companies may have.
4pm to 5pm
Vanderbilt University’s Flexner Discovery Lecture Series will welcome Dr Michael Klein, a British-born professor, for a lecture titled “Exploring Nature’s Design of Voltage Gated Ion Channels via Computation.”
6pm to 7:30pm
Consul General Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford will serve as the guest speaker for members of the Urban League of Young Professionals of Middle Tennessee where he will discuss his role as a consul general, his experiences across the globe as a diplomat, the UK-US special relationship, existing links between Tennessee and the UK, international business, foreign relations, and much more!
