Mr Hiroaki Nakanishi honoured by The Queen: Message from Ambassador

On behalf of the whole British government, I am delighted to congratulate Mr Nakanishi on the award of an Honorary Knighthood. This is a signal recognition on the part of Her Majesty The Queen of the personal contribution Mr Nakanishi has made to the rapidly expanding economic relationship between Japan and the United Kingdom. Hitachi, in its many forms, has played a key role, and Mr Nakanishi has played the crucial role in steering Hitachi in this direction.

Hitachi’s ground-breaking purchase of Horizon, which will build a new generation of British nuclear power stations, is critical to the future of British energy supplies. Hitachi’s decision not just to build a major new railway production plant in County Durham, which will open this autumn, but also to transfer its global railway headquarters to the UK, is a sign of strong confidence in the British economy, and the skills which British specialists bring. And Hitachi continues to work across a whole range of sectors in the UK, from health to finance, making them a major force in the British economy.

For all this, and his personal leadership and commitment, I salute Mr Nakanishi, and congratulate him on today’s wonderful announcement.
