Minister for Europe David Lidington visits Poland
The UK's Minister for Europe David Lidington visited Warsaw on 9-10 July to discuss current EU issues and foreign policy priorities.
Minister Lidington discussed British and Polish recipes for the Future of Europe, Eurozone and Banking Union with EU Minister Piotr Serafin and Under-Secretary of State for Economy Andrzej Dycha. Other aspects, such as the Eastern Policy and the present situation in Syria and Egypt were raised at meetings with Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Jaromir Sokołowski, Undersecretaries-of-State at the Foreign Ministry and the President’s Chancellery respectively.
While in Warsaw, Minister Lidington and Poland’s Under-Secretary of State for European Policy, Henryka Mościcka-Dendys took part in a lively and well-attended debate organised by a leading Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza. The discussion focussed on British and Polish views on the Future of Europe and, in spite of our two countries differing in some of the areas, the debate affirmed the strength of British-Polish relations.
With Poland being one of the UK’s key trading partners, Minister Lidington also met representatives of Polish business at an e-commerce breakfast to discuss further trade & investment opportunities for the UK in Poland as well as the GREAT campaign in Emerging Europe. Poland’s UK Trade & Investment team informed the Minister of the new British-Polish Business centre to be launched later in the month, with an aim to promote the opportunities, find potential business partners and attract more British firms to the Polish market.
