The ninth UK Japan joint committee on cooperation on science and technology was held on 4 November 2014.
The meeting was a chance to take stock of progress in UK-Japan collaboration in areas of mutual priority or global concern and explore the potential for collaboration in new areas.
Participants discussed how to develop international research networks and strengthen university-industry links.
- Innovation cooperation (including innovation centres, support mechanisms and entrepreneurship)
- Demographic challenges, globalisation and infectious disease
- Energy technologies and climate change
- Disaster risk reduction and science advice for emergencies
Sir Mark Walport led the UK delegation and his visit to Tokyo included side meetings on innovation, disaster risks and horizon scanning.
