She met with HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the State of Qatar to discuss the excellent bilateral relations between Qatar and the UK. They also discussed Qatar’s plans to deliver its 2030 National Vision and the 2022 World Cup, under the guidance of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, The Emir of the State of Qatar.

They reviewed cooperation between the UK and Qatar, including on trade and investment, security, and travel cooperation. They agreed that the bilateral relationship is stronger than ever and reiterated their shared commitment to work together to enhance this further.

As a demonstration of the close working relationship, the Home Secretary visited the Ministry of Interior’s Police Training Institute.

The Home Secretary also met with HE Dr. Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Communication and Information Technology. They discussed areas of shared interest, including cyber security.

Speaking after her visit, the Home Secretary said:

I am pleased to be able to visit Qatar today and meet HE The Prime Minister and Interior Minister and HE The Minister for ICT. The visit demonstrates our excellent bilateral relationship across the board including prosperity, trade and investment, and security. Our discussions set the foundations to further enhance our security collaboration, as Qatar progresses towards their vision for 2030.

British Ambassador to Qatar Nicholas Hopton said:

It gave me great pleasure to welcome the British Home Secretary to Doha today. Her visit served to highlight the close and historic ties between Qatar and the UK. The meetings gave the opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen this cooperation in a number of fields, including our trade and investment, and security partnerships.
