In May this year UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) hosted a stand at the annual Cape Town Good Food and Wine Show during which a competition was held to win a dinner at the Test Kitchen. Winner of dinner for four, Sian Martin describes her experience at the restaurant, currently no. 61 in the world (on the San Pellegrino list), with British Chef Luke Dale-Roberts who was recently being named ‘The one to watch’.
‘I was worried that I wouldn’t make it through all the courses, but I was pleasantly surprised that the food was not only beautifully plated and (sic) absolutely delicious. It seems Chef Luke has a way of pairing ingredients which seem incompatible, in a way that makes you think ‘how have I never had these together before? Our first course arrived and the night began to fly by. From scallops to home dried tomatoes with smoked goats cheese, lightly smoked beef fillet, pan-fried kingklip with a delicious egg filled ravioli and ending with the most amazing pear dessert. We were so engrossed with the waiter’s descriptions and the way the wine complemented the food so perfectly, that we completely lost track of time and just got lost in the food.’
Standing under Food is GREAT Britain branding, UKTI showcased modern Great British products including Feel Free gluten and wheat free foods, Asian curries and spices by Karimix, Penpont Cornish beer, whiskey from Brandhouse and St Neots innovative packaging. The British exhibitors were supported by the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce.
