Farewell party for the British Honorary Consul in Galapagos
In a very emotive reception, HMA Patrick Mullee expressed his gratitude for Mr. Balfour’s 25 years of service to the British Government.
On the 2nd July 2013, a farewell party took place for David Elliot Balfour who has retired as the Honorary British Consul in the Galapagos Islands. The event was hosted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Ecuador, Patrick Mullee, and was attended by members of the British community, local authorities, and close friends of Mr. Balfour.
Ambassador Mullee expressed his gratitude for Mr. Balfour’s 25 years of service to the British Government and highlighted his invaluable contribution and support. In addition to a framed letter thanking Mr. Balfour for his service he was also presented with a book of pictures and messages from former colleagues who were involved with charity work carried out by Mr. Balfour.
Mr. Balfour gave a speech where he told the audience how gratifying he had found the role and was grateful for the confidence placed in him. He commented that his work had been very varied, requiring him to deal with some very complex cases, from assisting British nationals in distress to celebrating marriages of British citizens on Galapagos Island cruise ships. Mr. Balfour received the Honour of the Order of the British Empire in 1988 as recognition for his public service.
