Falklands Assembly member Mike Summers in Ecuador

Mike Summers will visit Ecuador to attend the C24 Regional Conference (C24 is the UN Special Committee on Decolonization) next week.

Mike Summers, member of the Falklands Assembly, will visit Ecuador next week to attend the C24 Regional Conference (C24 is the UN Special Committee on Decolonization). The Falkland Islands Government were invited to attend by the UN and Mike has been selected as an elected member of the Assembly to represent them.

Short Bio:

Mike has been a Member of the Falkland Islands Assembly on and off since 1996. Born in Stanley and grew up in Port Howard (both in Falklands Islands). Studied in the UK before working for various construction and engineering companies around the world. In 1989, he returned to the Falklands to where he became General Manager of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation. He resigned in 1996 to pursue a political career.

Later that year he was elected in a by-election to the Legislative Council. Legislative Council (which was reconstituted as the Legislative Assembly in the 2009 constitution). Summers was re-elected in 1997, 2001 and 2005, but he lost his seat in the 2009 general election. In 2011, Summers returned to the Legislative Assembly and is still there now. Mike is a Trustee of the FI YMCA and Stanley Golf Club, Chairman Falkland Islands Overseas Games Association; he is active in sports and sport development. Mike is married to Jacqueline and has two daughters.
