Deputy Director, British Trade & Cultural Office to ride around Taiwan in nine days

Damion Potter, Deputy Director of the British Trade & Cultural Office (BTCO) will join the Taiwan Bicycle Association’s ‘Formosa900’ from Saturday 8 November to Sunday 16 November.

Potter said, “A few months ago I visited the Giant bikes facilities in Taichung with some other foreign trade offices and Embassies. The CEO of Giant Manufacturing, Tony Lo, spoke to us and, when I told him that my family and I ride every weekend in Taipei, he invited me to join his team for the Formosa900 ride – where participants ride around the island in nine days. “

“At this point that I had never ridden more than 20kms. But I like a challenge so agreed”.

Potter went on to explain some of the reasons that he will participate in the challenge: “There is, in my view, no better way to discover this beautiful island than to ride around it – the participants will see Taiwan at eye level and not dash past as we often do on a plane, train or even in a car. We’ll pass through most of Taiwan’s communities, spending the evening in eight different cities. This will help me speak with greater passion and knowledge as I meet Taiwanese from across the island over the coming years as I work here.” Potter continued, “I also want to spend some quality time with the Giant team - the company is a big investor in the UK, selling over 100,000 Giant bikes annually in our country”.

Damion Potter will also be raising money for a children’s charity, called Children in Needto which people can contribute. And the BTCO will cover his progress on their official facebook page.

Last month BTCO ran a GREAT Taste of Britian campaign for British food and drink across Taiwan. Potter said, “As the world tries to tackle the challenges of obesity, healthy eating and exercise are areas that by working together the UK and Taiwan could help people live longer, healthier lives which improves our productivity and prosperity too”.
