Civil Society and Democracy Panel

The British Embassy will be running a public seminar/panel on the subject of Civil Society and Democracy. The panel will be moderated by Tom Shepherd, Head of Political Section and will host the following guests:

  • Mathew Reading-Smith, Senior Communications Officer at CIVICUS (a global alliance of civil society organisations and activists dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society around the world)
  • Cathryn Archibald, Partnerships Officer at CIVICUS (a global alliance of civil society organisations and activists dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society around the world)
  • Lina Alqadoumi, Program Manager at INJAZ (a Kuwaiti NGO that delivers educational programs on entrepreneurial and leadership skills aimed at inspiring and educating future generations)
  • Dr. AlAnoud AlSharekh (researcher on youth and gender demographics, GCC security, and bi-cultural trends, and a specialist on Arab Feminist Theory)

The panel will be in English but direct interpretation to Arabic will be available, and will focus on questions like: Does democracy gain from civil society? What are the political and social factors that enable civil society? What roles can civil society fulfill in a democracy? How has Kuwait gained from civil society? And what are the key concerns that civil societies face in Kuwait today?

This event is FREE and open to the public.
