2014 has been another busy and exciting year for us all at the British High Commission in Singapore. Throughout the last 12 months we have delivered our prosperity, security and consular objectives by working with partners across the Singapore government as well as with the British Council, the British Chamber of Commerce and the British Association, and many others. Thank you to them all for their support and cooperation.

We have continued to see a steady stream of high level Ministerial and official visitors in both directions, with the Chancellor coming to Singapore last February and the Defence Secretary returning for the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in June. A few weeks later he was appointed Foreign Secretary and his first meeting with an international counterpart was with Singapore’s Foreign Minister, K Shanmugam. We were also delighted to welcome Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to London in March.

But the highlight was certainly the State Visit to the UK in October by President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Mrs Tan. It summed up both the warmth and the substance of the friendship between our countries, it looked back to honour our shared heritage whilst also looking forward to the partnership that we will build for the future.

For us, it was also an early celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence in 2015. We look forward to many more opportunities to mark this important milestone next year.

In the meantime, from us all at the British High Commission, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
