A group of Chevening alumni share their experience with departing scholar

Following an established tradition, a Chevening dinner was given by Charge d’Affaires Mr Ian Richards for Chevening alumni on 16 August. This dinner offered the opportunity to congratulate this year’s scholar Maral Oraznyyazova and welcome back the scholar from the 2012/13 programme Wepa Malikguliyev. Members of the Chevening alumni group from previous years were also invited to the dinner to share their experiences with and give advice to Maral.

Maral will commence her studies in London in September, becoming the latest scholar from Turkmenistan to benefit from the scholarship programme, which is sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Maral will undergo a one-year postgraduate course in the UK at the Queen Mary College, University of London.

Wepa Malikguliyev, who obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Cambridge in July, has completed his course in the UK and returned to Turkmenistan and is a welcome latest addition to the Chevening alumni group. The total number of Turkmen participants of the Chevening programme has reached 58, and this figure will continue to grow.

The British Embassy in Ashgabat is currently in the process of advertising the Chevening scholarship for the next academic year. We welcome all potential candidates from interested candidates to participate in the programme.
