Chevening Alumni Association of Pakistan holds its first elections
Chevening scholarships offer potential future leaders of Pakistan the opportunity to study for a post-graduate qualification in the UK.
The Chevening Alumni Association of Pakistan (CAAP) in collaboration with the British High Commission held its first election. The event was attended by Alumni and the interim executive members of the association. CAAP is a made up of Chevening Alumni, and involves networking and alumni-led solutions to various social, economic and development issues.
Chevening scholarships offer potential future leaders of Pakistan the opportunity to study for a post-graduate qualification in the UK. Upon their return home, they become a member of the 1400-strong Pakistan Chevening alumni community.
Speaking at the occasion Interim President of CAAP, Mr. Saif-Ur-Rehman said:
The Chevening Alumni forum is an effective platform for the Chevening scholars to organise various academic events and share their experiences to benefit the public and private sector. Thank you to the BHC in providing financial and logistic support not only in launching the association but also organising good quality events, and thank you to the outgoing CAAP executive committee members in making the Alumni a successful forum. I hope that Chevening scholars will continue to take an active part in Alumni Activities.
Andy Battson, Head of the Chevening Program at the British High Commission, said:
We are proud of the Chevening alumni and the important contribution they are already making towards Pakistan’s development. The Chevening Programme brings immediate benefits for individual scholars and also delivers long-term benefits for both Pakistan and the UK. CAAP offers a platform for our alumni – whether they are in bureaucracy, business, education, energy, media or other fields - to roll up their sleeves and to share their ideas on strengthening Pakistan.
We will keep provide support to the CAAP in whichever way we can. I am thankful to the members and President of the interim setup and congratulate new President, Vice President and all the regional heads. I look forward to seeing some great Alumni lead Chevening Activities in 2016.
