Secondary students with an interest in foreign affairs met with our staff to learn more about the work of the British High Commission.

The British High Commission Canberra hosted the 2013 winners of the Young Diplomats Program on 14 November. Six secondary students from North Queensland met with diplomatic staff to discuss world affairs and the role of the British High Commission.

Speaking about the event First Secretary Dr Ruth Wiseman said:

It was great to meet these students, who were enthusiastic about international issues.

We had an interesting discussion about the role of a diplomat, as well as how the UK supports efforts to eradicate the worst forms of child labour - the topic at the heart of the students’ visit.

The Young Diplomats Program is run annually by the Australian Institute of International Affairs in conjunction with James Cook University.
