British Embassy in Tunis invites bids for projects on torture prevention, freedom of expression and promoting women’s rights in Tunisia
The British Embassy in Tunis is accepting project proposals (bids) for the Human Rights and Democracy Programme Fund run by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on the themes of:
- Torture prevention;
- Freedom of expression;
- Women’s rights.
Please note that although the Fund covers other thematic areas in other countries, the British Embassy in Tunis will only be accepting project proposals on the above mentioned three areas for 2015/16 and will give ultimate priority to the themes of torture prevention and freedom of expression to support and complement existing work in these areas.
The deadline for submission of initial concept bids is 1 December 2014.
About the Human Rights and Democracy Programme Fund
The Human Rights and Democracy Programme Fund (HRDP) is one of the FCO’s strategic programme funds which aims to support projects around the world that helps progress the UK’s priorities in the areas of Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy. Previous work in Tunisia under this fund includes support to the development of the National Preventative Mechanism for torture prevention.

How to apply
Read the strategy document provided below carefully and ensure that any proposals you are considering are a good fit.
Use the template provided below to submit a Project Concept Note by Monday, 1 December, of no more than three pages in length.
Completed project concept notes must follow the FCO’s standard forms and Guidance provided below and should be submitted by email only to the address BritishEmbassyTunis@fco.gov.uk. As an environmentally conscious organisation, we do not accept print applications.

- Project proposals must clearly demonstrate how they will support the FCO’s strategy in at least one of the three thematic priorities of the Human Rights and Democracy Programme listed above.
- Projects should be able to start from April 2015 and must be completed by end March 2016.
- We welcome projects funded with other donors. All projects must demonstrate how they complement the efforts of other donors and bring added value. We strongly encourage projects that seek future funding from other bodies (i.e. EU, UN) to follow-on work.
The project concept notes will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Value for money
- Alignment with HRDP Strategy and FCO’s Foreign Policy Priorities
- Evidence of local demand or need
- Project viability, including capacity of implementing organisation(s)
- Project design, including clear, achievable impact
- Risk and stakeholder management
