disaster awareness events

As part of ongoing efforts by consular staff at the British Embassy Tokyo and British Consulate-General Osaka to engage with the British community in Japan, a series of local events are being held across the country, aiming to ensure that British nationals are better prepared in the event of a crisis.

September events are scheduled to be held on 14 September in Ishikawa and 20 September in Tokyo.

Teaming up with local organisations, the events will take place at local disaster prevention centres where you will be able to take part in a range of activities that might just make all the difference in the event of a disaster, such as earthquake simulations, escaping from smoke-filled corridors and learning how to use fire extinguishing equipment.

The events will also give British nationals the chance to find out more about the work of consular sections in Tokyo and Osaka. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and joined by local wardens – the network of volunteers who help us to assist British nationals in a crisis.

We look forward to getting to know British people living in these areas and sharing knowledge about disaster prevention and the related work we do.
