British Secretary of State for Defence visits Pakistan
The British Secretary of State for Defence, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, today visited Pakistan to discuss the broad range of defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and the UK.
During his visit to Pakistan, the sixth by a British Cabinet Minister since the formation of Pakistan’s new government in May 2013, Mr. Hammond met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He also saw Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatimi, and senior defence and military figures.
Speaking in Islamabad, Mr Hammond said:
The UK and Pakistan share common interests and together we are tackling common threats. It is in our mutual interests to work closely together on a broad range of issues, particularly security and regional stability.
I am therefore delighted to be in Pakistan to take forward discussions with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government in these important areas.
