British High Commissioner visits Nuwara Eliya
British High Commissioner John Rankin visited Nuwara Eliya on 5 November 2014 as part of his tour to the hill country.

He visited MENCAFEP, a school for children with disabilities founded by Chris Stubbs MBE and his wife, Ranji. MENCAFEP provides a daycare facility and teaching to children of all age groups and different levels of ability. His Royal Highness Prince Charles visited MENCAFEP during his time in Sri Lanka in November 2013.
The High Commissioner later called on V S Radhakrishnan, Deputy Minister of Botanical Gardens and Public Recreation and also S Sathasivam, General Secretary of the Ceylon Workers’ Alliance. With both he discussed the challenges faced by the tea industry and tea estate workers, as well as wider developments in the Nuwara Eliya district. He also visited a tea factory and was interested to hear estate workers’ stories about life on the estate.
